If you’re like us, we don’t like high energy bills. With summer right around the corner, we as consumers, are going to need to start thinking about how we can conserve energy if we want those bills to stay manageable. Luckily, we were able to put together some tips and tricks on how to save energy with your appliances.
Utilize your Dishwasher - You may be thinking that using your dishwasher uses more energy than hand washing dishes; we are here to tell you it’s quite the opposite. When hand washing, we tend to use so much more water than a dishwasher. Not to mention, newer dishwashers focus on saving energy and utilizing less water. On the market for a new dishwasher that saves energy? Look for the Energy Star products. Interested in saving even more energy? Instead of using the heated dry, dry your dishes by hand or simply let them air dry.

Fill that Fridge - The more items you have in your refrigerator, the less likely it is to warm up after every time you open the doors. When you have little to nothing in the refrigerator, it warms up quickly, thus, making your refrigerator work harder to cool it back down again.
Check Those Seals - Make sure that your refrigerator and freezer seals are, well… sealed. If they’re not sealing properly you risk losing cold air, thus, making your appliance work harder to keep your food cold.

Air Dry Clothes - A technique used by our grandparents and maybe even parents, it’s definitely an energy saver.
Dryer Sensibility - Should you choose to forego Option #3 above, make sure you’re cleaning your lint trap in the dryer and don’t overfill. Overfilling pushes your dryer to work harder, not smarter.
Dishwasher Loads - When you’re doing a load of dishes, don’t fill the dishwasher halfway with dishes. Wait until you have a full dishwasher, then start that cycle. Less cycles = less energy used.
Cooking Efficiency - Although less appealing to some, utilizing the microwave instead of the cooktop could be saving you up to ⅔ less energy. We do realize that some things just need some stovetop lovin’, so in those instances, try to put a little pep in the step.
Washer Temperatures - Did you know it takes more energy to wash your clothes on high heat than it does on the warm or cold setting? Always follow your Use and Care Guide provided by your manufacturer for washing recommendations.
